Au Pair Ren

Typical Costs of Becoming an Au Pair in China

A general guide to expenses that candidates and host families should discuss before matching.

General cost guide

Plan the costs before you make a match.

Ren Open is a matching platform, not a traditional placement agency. We do not provide online applicants with the full agency service available to Ren Select candidates. The information below is a general guide to the costs someone may need to consider when planning an au pair stay in China. What is paid by the candidate or host family depends on the individual agreement.

Costs candidates usually need to plan for

Travel to and from China; visa and document-related costs; insurance and medical expenses; language study; local transport and personal spending; and emergency funds.

Items a host family may cover

Accommodation, meals, pocket money, language study, local transport, or travel support may be part of an individual agreement. Confirm each item before matching.

What Ren Open does not provide or guarantee

Ren Open does not guarantee flights, visas, insurance, medical care, courses, pocket money, accommodation terms, or a successful match.

Items to discuss

Write down who pays for each item.

Travel to and from China

Confirm tickets, dates, luggage, changes, and cancellations before booking.

Visa and document-related costs

Requirements and fees can change. Check current official information and confirm responsibility for each document.

Insurance and medical expenses

Confirm insurance scope, exclusions, routine care, and emergency arrangements.

Language study

Daily travel, phone service, leisure, and personal purchases should be planned separately.

Emergency funds

Candidates should plan a personal reserve for unexpected changes or an early return.

Before matching: Accommodation, meals, pocket money, schedules, study, transport, travel support, and other practical items should be written into the family agreement. This varies by family and should be confirmed before matching.
